I only got two reservations:

One: Have you ever met a writer who works well with money? They might exists, but not in the circles I run in.

Two: If writers focus too much on the business side, they might neglect the writing side. I studied some business, and in my limited experience, the corporate world conflicts with creativity, they say they want innovation, creative ideas, and fresh thoughts, but they don't mean it, and an artist needs to stay outside a hierarchical system like that to be truly creative. If you focus too much on the nitty-gritty of business, you might neglect your most important competitive advantage, your most unique gift, your raison d''être, that which Prof. Walter so often emphasizes, writing unique stories that make the movie world go round.

That said, it would be terrific for writers to get more control of their work and to be better rewarded for those long, lonely, late nights in front of a computer screen, baring our souls on a blank page.

Let's do it.

Perhaps, screenwriters ought to approach book publishers instead of normal Hollywood to have control over what is ultimately released to the public. Book publishers with money could produce TV shows and films as well as regular Hollywood does. It could make book publishers more profit than what they spend on publishing and marketing novels while allowing control of content to the screenwriter.

What about writer owned movie theater chains? It would be like more restaurant chains starting in local areas. Instead of it being food service facilities. It would be entertainment service facilities opening up in local areas. Where is the serial short?
