The German TV series "The Swarm" (original title: "Der Schwarm") based on Frank Schätzing's novel (soon on Amazon Prime, I believe), ostensibly aims to address climate change. However, the series and the book falter, failing to recognize that climate change is not an argument suited for scripted drama. Unable to see that they were trying to script a scientific essay, the creators opted for the facile invention of the Yrr, an alien-like collective intelligence of marine lifeforms that had it in for the humans and start to destroy the world. In earlier times, the Yrr would have simply been called slime, much like the amorphous threat in the unpretentious and therefor very entertaining B movie "The Blob."
