It's a problem everywhere. Yet art represents a society, a civilization, a people, long after they are gone. What do we have and admire of the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans? Yes, institutions, and philosophy, but most prominently their art: their literature, their architecture, and yes, their statues, paintings, literature, their art.
Thanks for the post, Richard. You touched a critical issue that is an Achilles’ heel in many societies. No doubt politicians and policy makers should be held accountable for such discriminations in everything including education. Here is the point where Critical Pedagogy can play its role.
Introduce competition by having K-post doctoral education funded paid by the choice of the parents or if over 18 the student. Have high caps on education, or Perhaps, the particular institution could seek individual justification for tuition rate before an approval board instead of set amount.
I prefer to eliminate many taxes and the economy will rectify itself. If you are going to have socialism choice is still necessary for wealth creation from those who have less resources.
The Democrat party makes victims. Professor Walter you are a bit better in your thinking than Democrat party polictians. You are suggesting solutions that are reasonable and practical. Democrat party polictians mainly blame to be elected.
That is a terrific idea. I wish more politicians and policymakers would follow a positive approach instead of trying to break everything down. Unfortunately I think for some of them, breaking down is the goal. Let's hope sanity and good ideas prevail.
They should especially invest in screenwriting. The arts should be the top priority in my biased view.
We don’t fund the arts very much here in the US!

The beauty of a civilization is what entices us.
I wrote an essay in my world history class about the necessity of understanding the past, not merely through text or archaeology but also through art.
It’s the soul of a civilization!
I agree.

Opportunity, not deprivation!
